ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY

Test, calibrate, and repair electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic equipment, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards, and assist in formulating calibration standards by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following plus other duties that may be assigned.

  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning electronic devices down to the component-level using standard test equipment
  • Interpret function of circuits utilizing schematics and component data sheets
  • Disassemble instruments and equipment and inspect components for defects
  • Measure parts for conformity within specifications
  • Reassemble and calibrate instruments and equipment
  • Interact with and assist electronic assemblers to ensure product quality
  • Answer customer questions regarding use and repair of products

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The candidate must have excellent communication skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum of Associate's degree or equivalent technical schooling or experience and/or training. Hand-soldering experience is a must!

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to: read and interpret documents such as schematics, data sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must be able to: calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; calculate standard electronic values such as current, voltage, power and gain.

REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., stand for extended periods, walk 100 yards at a time to retrieve products and materials off of shelves, reach for/hold/grab/use small parts and tools. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD ASSEMBLER

SUMMARY

Assemble electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) according to specifications by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following plus other duties that may be assigned.

  • Read worksheets and wiring diagrams, receive verbal instructions, or follow sample board to determine assembly duties, and select components, such as transistors, resistors, relays, capacitors, and integrated circuits
  • Twist, bend, trim, strip, or file wire leads of components or reams holes in boards to insert wire leads
  • Insert color-coded wires in designated holes and clinch wire ends
  • Press-fit (mount) component leads onto board
  • Place plastic insulating sleeves around specified wire leads of components and shrink sleeves into place
  • Crimp wire leads on underside of board
  • Apply sealer or masking compound to selected parts of board to protect parts from effects of wave solder process
  • Solder wire leads and joints on underside of board to route and connect lead wires to board and between individual components
  • Installs heat sinks, sockets, faceplates, and accessories on boards

  • Performs general and Operations specific data entry
  • Maintains documents, files, and records for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions
  • Responds to inquiries of staff and administration regarding purchasing procedures for the purpose of providing information, direction, an/or referral for addressing inquiry
  • Serve as back-up for Purchasing Manager when required
  • Review purchase requisitions
  • Communicate with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
  • Help select products for purchase by researching, testing, observing, or examining items
  • Help estimate values according to knowledge of fair market price
  • Prepare purchase orders or bid requests
  • Review bid proposals and negotiate within budgetary limitations and scope of authority
  • Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of problem and take corrective action
